The Sunshine Diner is locate in the heart of Kitsilano (2649 West Broadway). The theme of the diner is 1950’s/ 1960’s. Everywhere you look there is imagery and paraphernalia from that era, with a specific focus on Elvis Presley and Marilyn Monroe. The Sunshine Diner is most famously known for their in house made hollandaise sauce. Although the entire menu is not vegan friendly at first sight, there is a Veggie breakfast option which originally includes 2 eggs, hash browns, fruit bowl, avocado, grilled asparagus, spinach, grilled mushrooms, and toast. For the vegan option they offer to replace the eggs with fresh sliced tomatoes and #holdtheeggs. The first time I tried this dish I found veggies to be cooked too much oil, so the second time around I asked for them to go light on the oil and my meal was perfect. Make sure you tell them you want your toast dry as they do not have any vegan butter options. The way I love to eat this breakfast is to take a hash brown and pile my fork with it, and a slice of each one of the the veggie option…it is absolutely delicious. Anyone who knows me knows that I can’t eat most things without hot sauce, in particular Franks hot, so if you are like me…dip you potato in some hot sauce and eat it with a bit of the fresh tomato, avocado, spinach and mushroom…it is absolutely delicious. I personally like the eat the asparagus on it’s own.
